3D GFRC facade showcase: PREVIER

The facade of PREVIER in Hamburg’s HafenCity is defined by three-dimensional formparts and large-format glassfibre reinforced concrete panels by Rieder. In six warm shades of red, they create a weather-resistant, monolithic-looking building envelope designed specifically for the demanding conditions of the Port of Hamburg.
Wind, rain and salty air place high demands on the material. Rieder’s GFRC elements provide a durable, robust and lightweight solution. Around 17,000 m² of custom-made formparts and panels form a precisely coordinated facade that combines protection with architectural expression.
The facade system integrates flat surfaces with sculptural 3D profiles. Vertical and horizontal elements generate depth, rhythm and subtle shadowing. Different surface treatments enhance the effect: lightly sandblasted finishes create visual depth and a refined tactile quality. Despite this variation, the colour appearance remains consistent, reinforcing the building’s monolithic character.
The graduated red tones reference Hamburg’s brick heritage and reinterpret it in a contemporary architectural language. The result is a distinctive yet restrained building form that marks the gateway to HafenCity.
Construction efficiency was equally important: the lightweight GFRC components enable efficient installation on the over 60-metre-high tower. Due to the dense urban context, elements were installed top-down using crane logistics.
This delivers a durable, low-maintenance and precisely engineered facade solution that combines design flexibility, protective performance and construction efficiency within an integrated system.
