Mataki EchoTech reduces climate impact in school construction

The new Söndrebalj School, in Hjärnarp outside Ängelholm, is currently under construction and will accommodate 550 students. Designed to meet Miljöbyggnad 4.0 Silver standards, the project places strong emphasis on sustainability, including material reuse, energy efficiency, and a good indoor acoustic environment. For example, bricks from the old school on the site are being reused in the new building.

Sustainability is also reflected in the roofing solution. Mataki is supplying its innovative underlay product, Haloten PRO EchoTech, which uses tall oil in its binder to reduce climate impact by 28% without compromising performance. The product has been nominated for the Nordbygg Gold Medal 2026 for innovation.

Mataki has also supported the project with on-site training for contractors, ensuring proper installation and enabling a 30-year waterproofing warranty. The roof, covering approximately 3,500 square meters, is part of a complete system solution delivered in collaboration with local suppliers.

The school is scheduled for completion in summer 2027, representing a forward-thinking and sustainable learning environment for future generations.
